My Great Grandpa Bud

I'm back to my blog after being away unexpectedly. Two weeks ago, my Grandpa Bud died. I felt very sad because he was the last great grandparent that I had left. I will miss his funny sense of humor. He liked to tell jokes and sing songs. He used to go to church in a nice dress shirt with a tie, and a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. We liked to take him out to get an ice cream.

We went to South Dakota for his funeral. It wasn't too sad, thank goodness, because everyone told funny stories about Grandpa Bud. Now he can be with his wife that died seven years before him on the very same day. Once Grandpa Bud saw a rattlesnake and told Uncle Rob to run back to the house and get Grandma's hoe. When Grandma saw Uncle Cam she said, "Where are you going with my hoe? You come back here! Don't you break my hoe!" Well, of course Grandpa broke the hoe killing a rattlesnake and Uncle Rob had to go back to the house and tell Grandma.
Another time, Grandpa fell in a well during a blizzard. He doesn't remember much, but he somehow ended up on the ground outside the well. Angels were looking after him. His hand was badly damaged, and he wasn't able to use it much after that. He couldn't even fiddle anymore. But my brother and I got to play our fiddles at Grandpa's funeral and a lot of people said that it reminded them of Grandpa Bud and his fiddling and that he was in heaven feeling proud.
I'm glad I got to South Dakota so that I could see Grandpa's farm and see Oma and Opa and Uncle Rob and Daddy's Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Steve, Uncle Gary, and Aunt Desiree. I met some long lost cousins and we built a crazy cup castle. I read lots of Laura Ingalls Wilder books. She knew a lot about South Dakota. We also went to Mount Rushmore, which was very snowy but very impressive. My little brother wasn't impressed because he thinks it should be bigger. We told him that the eyebrow of George Washington is really longer than six feet, but it doesn't look that way from the ground, so he doesn't really believe it.
It's good to be home, but now I am busy catching up on all of my work. I made lots of Valentines to post about, but I'll save them for next year.

Oh Sailor, that was fun to hear all your good memories of Grandpa Bud. We think he was pretty amazing, too and feel lucky that your Daddy introduced him into our side of the family. That is so neat you and Westey got to fiddle for him. We're glad you are back safe and sound. Love, the briscos

Sailor,
Thankyou so much for sharing those stories about Grandpa Bud. I always love to hear stories about him. He really was an amazing person, and you're so lucky to be part of his family. That's so neat that you and Westy fiddled at his funeral, I didn't know that. We missed you in California but we're so glad we got to see you after!
