For science this week, my little brother made a kaleidoscope. I could barely stand it! I wanted to make one too, but the only thing I've been studying for science lately is worms. I know a lot more about worms than I ever wanted to know. If you ever want to know anything about worms, worms, worms, you can ask me, since I'm becoming a reluctant worm expert!
So after school and all my worm-studies, I gathered up all the kaleidoscope materials I needed and made my own. I'll show you how, too. Unless of course you'd rather study worms. Nah! Here's what you'll need: a toil paper roll, tissue paper, cardboard, markers, pencil, scissors, ruler plus some tape and glue. You'll also need some metalic paper OR some mylar to create a mirror. (You could even use mylar from a popped balloon.) We used silver paper film from the scapbooking store.
First, cut 3 rectangles measuring 4 and 1/2 inches by 1 and 1/2 inches from the metallic paper and ANOTHER SET from the cardboard. Glue the metallic paper on to the cardboard to make it sturdy. When the glue dries, tape the three metallic/cardboard rectangles together, metallic side down. Then fold it into a triangular tube, metallic side in and tape it shut. (This will create your kaleidoscope, since the light will bounce off the reflective surfaces and create lots of images.) Scoot the tube into an empty toilet paper roll. Create an eye piece by tracing a circle the size of the toilet paper roll top. Trace a smaller circle inside. Add a few tabs to make it easier to tape down. (The eye piece isn't really necessary, but it will help your eye to focus.)Cut it out and attach it to the top of your kaleidoscope. Cut a sheet of paper the size of your toilet paper tube and decorate it for a covering. Your kaleidoscope is all ready and you can use it anywhere. For fun, you can also make a brightly colored drawing with markers on tissue paper and hang it in a window to use with your kaleidoscope. Wouldn't it be fun to make these for your friends for Valentine's Day? I'll be back soon with more fun ideas! Have a great week.

Way to go Sailor! That looks like such a cute craft. The only thing I like worms for is fishing. I love to fish but don't get to go that often.
Oh that looks like so much fun, Sailor. We'll have to get the stuff to make some, too. Thanks for sharing such a great idea! Good luck with the worms!
Sailor,
Thanks for not mentioning how your naughty one year old cousin came to visit and destroyed your beautiful kaleidoscope. We felt very badly about that. Sorry!
Next time you come to visit, you are welcome to destroy anything of ours :).
We miss you and hope to see you soon. Love, The Briscos
HEIDI!
YOU! Of course it's Ok. I'd rather see Lavender and have her destroy all my kaleidoscopes. I made it to show you guys anyway. Love, Sailor
