"All day the storm lasted. The windows were white and the wind never stopped howling and screaming. It was pleasant and warm in the house." In the book, On the Banks of Plum Creek, no matter what happens the Ingalls family seems to stay happy. The story begins when little Laura Ingalls moves from Indian Territory to Minnesota. She and her family, Ma, Pa, Carrie and Mary, have to live in a dugout until they have enough money to build a house. In the meantime, they run into fires and snowstorms and other setbacks. But they have a happy time swimming, going to parties, and celebrating holidays.
The story takes place in Minnesota in the late 1800s. Laura thinks that living in a dugout is fun. Ma worries that anyone can walk over the house and not even know it's there. Someone does. A cow, and his leg falls right through the roof! Laura loves the creek and the beautiful morning glories.
Laura Ingalls Wilder is the little girl in the story and author of this book. She has brown hair and brown eyes, but she wishes she could have blue eyes and blonde hair. Laura loves her doll Charlotte and her little sister Carrie. She also loves to play with Mary, help Ma, and listen to Pa's stories. She thinks that life in the dugout is outstanding. Laura is very smart and her parents can count on her to be brave, but she can be naughty sometimes too.
Mary is Laura's older sister. Mary has blue eyes and blonde hair, just like Laura wants. Mary tries very hard to follow all of the family rules. Mary is not as brave as Laura, but she is always lady like. The two girls love to play by the creek and laugh and take care of little Carrie.
Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in a log cabin in 1867 in Wisconsin. Laura's family traveled across the country many times looking for a good home and place to make a good living. Laura wrote The Little House Series about her childhood on the prarie. She married Almanzo Wilder and had one daughter named Rose and a little son who died before Laura could name him. She didn't write the Little House books until she much older. Rose helped her since she was already a famous writer herself.
This book is one of my favorites and it also won a Newberry Honor Medal. I love this book becuase it tells how the Ingalls family lives on a farm and how they make everything themself. I hope you will read it for yourself. I think you will enjoy it, too.

Dear Sailor:
I'm so glad that you are such a fan of the Little House books. I have enjoyed reading them with you. You know, you're a little like Laura and a little like Mary, too. I love you just the way you are!:)
Sailor this is a wonderful report on one of your favorite books. I really enjoyed reading it. I learned a lot. I loved those books when I read them also. I liked the fact that no matter what they were mostly a happy family. I hope my grandaughters will love to read as much as you do. They sure like it now when we read to them. I can't wait until they learn to read to me.
Sailor,
We love this book at our house, too! Grandma used to read it to aunt Mary and I. One night when she finished reading a chapter she said, "Okay girls and tommorow we'll read about Nellie Olsen's Party." And we went to bed. The next night, Grandma pulled the book out and Aunt Mary yelled out, "Mother, we forgot to go to the party!" Poor little Mary thought it was a real party!
Say Say,
Thanks for the book report. We will have to pick it up soon. Especially since Lavender is our own little Carrie Sue now. Maybe it would be fun to do a little play of this at Thanksgiving time. Let me know what you think.
Sailor,
Have you read the books before this one? I am on Farmer Boy and so far it is very good. I think the LIttle House on the Prairie series is so incredibly amazing:-)
Your blog is the best Blog. Sailor, I am so happy that you have a blog and your only about my age! You inspire me.
love,
Logan( Rindy's Daughter)
I loved those books!
Sailor (Belle),
I just saw you in your beautiful Belle costume on your mom's blog. You look JUST like Belle . . . but even more beautiful. And you always have a book in your hand just like her. It was really fun to meet you and I still remember that Marie Antoinette wore a new dress everyday . . . but I'll bet she wasn't as lucky as you are to have an amazing mom make it for her. Happy Halloween!
